CAN YOU BE ALLERGIC TO ESSENTIAL OILS?

Before we get started...

I am not here to diagnose anyone and always consult your doctor.

First, you CANNOT be allergic to Young Living essential oils if you are using them properly. I can't speak about other companies because almost all essential oils that you purchase from the store have additives, synthetics, they are diluted, etc. You CAN have an allergic reaction to the other ingredients that are in the essential oil bottle. Just remember that the companies are not required to list these ingredients on their labels.

A great example for explaining how out of control essential oils companies get when it comes to diluting and adding other ingredients is Lavender essential oil.

There is 40% more lavender essential oil sold every year, than what is actually grown in the world! 40%!!!

There only has to be 5% essential oil in the bottle for it to be labeled "100% pure".

Don't be fooled!

You can't be allergic or have an actual allergic reaction to Young Living essential oils because there are no protein molecules. Protein molecules are what create the allergic reaction. Without them, you are simply having a reaction. Keep reading to find out what to do if you have a reaction.

You can have a REACTION to ANYTHING. Essential oils, food, weather, grass, etc. A reaction is when you have an irritation or a hypersensitivity. A lot of people will confuse this with an allergic reaction.

If you think you had an actual allergic reaction, read the ingredients. Many blends and roll-ons contain fractionated coconut oil. You may have had an allergic reaction to the coconut oil if you have a nut allergy. If so, make sure to avoid these products and make your own roll ons or blends.

There is one exception... citrus essential oils.

Citrus essential oils from Young Living or any other company are not actually essential oils. Essential oils are distilled but citrus oils are cold pressed from the rind. Therefore, you CAN have an actual allergic reaction to citrus oils. But, many people who have citrus allergic are perfectly fine using citrus essential oils. Every person is different.

In the beginning, you always want to dilute the essential oils. Always start slowly to allow your body to adapt and catch up.

Always remember that essential oils are very concentrated and potent. If you are a highly toxic person, whether it be emotionally, from using too many chemicals, or physically, etc., your body can overreact to essential oils. Also, the hotter the oil, the more likely you are to have a reaction (dilute).

You're probably thinking... But I still get headaches when I use essential oils. This is because essential oils can change oxygen levels because they create circulation. They can change hormone levels, change emotions, and they can detox your body. All of these things affect your brain so it may take some time for your body to adjust.

If you are having a reaction, back off. Drink more water! When you are dehydrated, your body is more sensitive to the oils.

When you come back to using the oils, dilute them. If you are still having a reaction, skip a few days, try again diluted. If you are still having a reaction, don't use them. Try something else of just diffuse.

Don't be sad if you think you are missing out on the benefits of applying the oils topically. Diffusing essential oils is highly therapeutic and can still reach your organs.

If you are extra sensitive, a great place to start is the bottoms of your feet because your skin is thicker.

Never hesitate to ask questions! I'm here to help!
